Hongkong is a free port known as a “shopping paradise“. The majority of goods are without customs duties so that the goods all round the world come to compete for sale and even some are cheaper than that of the country of origin.
Every district of Hongkong has large shopping malls, such as Taikoo Shing, Sha Tin New City Square and so on, in which there are large department stores, various shops and restaurants. Some have amusement equipment and are good places for shopping and leisure.
Some industries like centralized management, so customers can have more choices. For instance, for the computer and related products, the “Gordon” and “gold” shopping mall near Sham Shui Po subway station is the most concentrated areas.
Household appliances and cameras are mainly sold in Mong Kok and Causeway Bay, but it is better for you to buy in reputable stores (such as attached by Hongkong Tourist Association red sailboat marks) or large department stores.
Hardware machinery shops gather in three streets of Guangdong Road of Mong Kok MTR station. On Garden Street, from Mong Kok Road to Prince Edward Road, is a paradise of fruit, clothes and daily necessities vendors.
Across Argyle Street the Tung Choi Street and a few streets are the famous “women’s street”. It is similar to situation along the sides of the Yau Ma Tei Temple. But the latter in the evening has delias and fortune-telling stalls, and near the Temple there are Cantonese operas singing like a popular civilian nightclub.
